24 Hour Armageddon

I lent a Hammer Museum programming assist to this screening organized by Los Angeles photographer Walead Beshty. We screened 24, non-stop hours of movies about, during, or after the end of the world. Read More

Industrial Light and Magic

My one-minute tour-de-force as “The Hunter”, in a short by director Michelle Dean, was apparently a hit at the CalArts Student Showcase at RedCat this past weekend. I was sorry to miss my giant head on the big screen, but happy to hear it won even more points by being sandwiched between two interminable 20 minute student film epics. Recipe for greatness: 1 minute+The Bewl+Hunting Gear+Girl in Deer Head+wall of fake boobs. (And yes this is an image of me riding a deer on a rainbow, in space.)

Spidey Sense

If you look closely in a scene in the new Spiderman 3 trailer, the wallcrawler raises his head directly in front of our downtown LA building. LA=Weird.

Long Boxes

This week I said goodbye to Incredible Hulk #181, featuring the first appearance of the X-Men’s own Wolverine. First time he ever appeared in a comic and I had it. (Technically he appeared in shadow at the end of 180, but who’s counting?) I managed to secure a few highlights in my comic collecting days (Giant Sized X-Men #1 says what?), but selling this gem of a book made me think about all those days mowing Mrs. Miller’s yard and stuffing broken branches into easily torn lawn bags for $20 a week. Without her aggressive approach to lawn maintenance, I would never have been able to invest in ridiculous things like comics. So a belated, and fond farewell to Mrs. Ginny Miller and her husband Bud, who’ve both passed on to that green, well kept back yard in the sky. Thanks for everything.

Miss Amy Jo

For no other reason than I adore her work and am happy she agreed to do our invites for the big day, here is the site for Amy Jo Hendrickson. She’s an insanely talented designer and screen printer residing in the great design capital of Minneapolis. She’s done gorgeous posters for our friends The Buffalo Killers and the image here is from her poster for the Donnas.

Hot for Woodsy

Time for a Bewley-Challenge! I’m declaring April “Give a Hoot Month”. I’m beginning to feel that America’s youth have forgotten the legacy of one of our greatest spokes-creatures, the majestic and whimsical, Woodsy the Owl. Woodsy is fresh, y’all – so let’s bring him back! And we gotta convince them to drop his lame new slogan, Lend a Hand, Care about the Land. ???! Yeuck. Why change it? Give a Hoot, Don’t Pollute Freakin’ ROCKS! I’m urging everyone to obtain an official costume from the Forest Service and be Woodsy for a week spreading his charming lessons about saving the environment!. If it’s really working, do it all month! Seriously get one! If after April you choose to destroy it – here’s how .

DALE ENJOYS YOU

Dale Seaver, who shot to fame with his partner Ginny as part of the Bay Area sensation, The Man Woman Show, is certainly someone I enjoy. A couple of years ago I started a blog for Dale which you can view at somethingsienjoy. If you enjoy Dale enjoying things, he’s available for weddings. Seriously. Just email me if you need a good host for your next special event. Dale has performed at a number of hot spots, including the Bedlam Romp in Minneapolis, the Carroll wedding in St. Louis, and at Mo’Pitkins House of Satisfaction in New York City as part of the monthly comedy happening, Two for the Show.

Kellie Gets Closer with Travis

Kellie finished up this video for her favorite band of all time, Travis. Despite being in a Supermarket at 4am with her ultimate crush, she kept her cool and the result is a great video that you can fill your eyeballs with here . Give it up for that stack of peas and the giant trophy in Ben Stiller’s office!
