BRING OUT THE BOLD!

Everywhere I go, people are asking me to shout my now-famous catchphrase, “BRING OUT THE BOLD!” And I happily oblige! I’ve signed so many bottles at Duane Reade, it’s ridiculous, but that’s the price of fame, I guess.

I have to put up with some of this attention now that I’ve provided the voice for the new global ad campaign from J.Walter Thompson for Johnson & Johnson’s Listerine. This series of ads for radio, tv and the internet launched April 4, 2016 and should be building as the year goes on. It was an incredible opportunity to work on this project and I’m thankful to everyone involved in bringing me in. And now I get to be a part of SAG-AFTRA, which means I get a pin, and a card for inside my wallet, and daily emails about things that are happening in the entertainment business! Ask me about residual schedules!

Here’s one of the ads for your enjoyment.

WUNNERFUL RETURNS TO JOE’S PUB 4/10

Join co-hosts Leslie Goshko (Huffington Post Comedy) and James Bewley (Dale Radio) as they present an all-new musical salute to spring inspired by the long-running Lawrence Welk television program. Far from a traditional tribute, the hour-long event veers off into unexpected territory as petty jealousies, forbidden passions, and over-sized egos of the cast are revealed. Bewley, as his alter ego Dale Seever, picks up the celebrated conductor’s baton to lead an evening of popular songs as reimagined by a talented cast that includes:

Downtown cabaret sensation Molly Pope; genre-defying song stylist Salty Brine; singer- songwriter Cariad Harmon; three person brass section and comedy troupe The Trumpet Boys; emerging choreographer Carol Mendes & Artists; along with singing sirens Barrie McLain,
Ashley Pérez Flanagan, Tonya Glanz, and Shaye Troha; with an orchestra of handsome gents known as The Wunnerful Companions (Andrew Bancroft, Moondrunk; Chris “Shockwave” Sullivan, Freestyle Love Supreme; Eric Biondo, Antibalas; Steve O’Reilly, Tammany Hall NYC) .*
*Lineup subject to change

New Web Series & More Story Shows

Just did a guest spot over on Dale Radio and then I heard Dale was giving me a hard time about keeping this website updated, so here is some very up to date info about two upcoming shows happening in November.

First up, I’m pleased to be doing The Jenny Rubin Show at the HiFi Bar in NYC on Thursday, November 12 with Tom Cowell, Margaret Dodge, Rebecca Vigil, Jason Burke and the wonderful host, Jenny Rubin. You may recall that I was scheduled to do one of these back in January, but something happened there with the venue and we didn’t end up actually doing a show. So will I bring out the story about Christmas originally intended for that or do I tell a new one? Who knows. Depends on how long these web updates take! But it would be wonderful to see you at the show. If you can’t make that date, boy are you in luck!! I’m going to be sharing another story on the Bitchcraft show hosted by the incomparable Selena Coppock and Lauren Maul and the world famous Duplex on Tuesday, November 24th. There’s a piano and puppets and good drinks and a weird bathroom – this place has it all!

Also – speaking of having it all, Dale’s been busy producing a new series of web videos called Opening Bags. It’s produced in collaboration with the fantastic comedy platform SanFrangeles. Which you can visit at http://www.sanfrangeles.co/. The show is a take on the popular form of Haul Videos, mostly created by young women online who enjoy showing you what they just bought at the store. But like, just bought, then set up some lights, did makeup and hair, wrote a script, learned basic editing techniques, etc. Here’s an example. The point is, it’s a genre of web video wherein people basically open their shopping bags and tell you what kind of sweater is hot right now. I find most sweaters a little too hot right now, which is why I’m wearing a vest.

The point is, you won’t want to miss an episode of Dale’s new show, so set a tickler for Opening Bags, with new bags opening every Tuesday. It’s like an advent calendar for depressive alcoholics. Watch it on SanFrangeles or on Dale’s YouTube Channel: www.youtube.com/daleradio.

Philly, What’s Good?

As the new season of Dale Radio prepares to launch, I’ll also be doing a few storytelling appearances around town. First up, I’m sharing a classic tale of childhood in Philadelphia as part of the beautifully named, SHOW ME YOUR HOAGIE – Stories from Philly!

The night is hosted by Bridget O’Neill (who was a guest on an early episode of Dale Radio, back when we were in the prop shop – you can listen here.) And she’s got a number of greater Philly ex-pats in on the act including Katina Corrao and Rena Zager. There will also be trivia and more. Hope to see yous dere on Toosdee. Go IGGLES!

TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 29TH @ 7:30pm! KGB BAR, NYC, NY
Please NOTE that this is the venue ABOVE their main venue

Even More Wunnerful June 25th!

I’m incredibly excited to be performing and presenting another edition of Wunnerful Wunnerful! our weirdo-tribute to Lawrence Welk. This time we’re part of one of the most exciting new theater festivals in NYC, ANT Fest at Ars Nova. So many great theater projects have emerged from the festival and from the fine folks at Ars Nova. It’s an exceptional place for new work and we’re going to give it our all with this totally new iteration of the show. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door – but it’s a smaller venue, so it’s a good idea to get tickets early. Here’s the link.

Ars Nova is located at 511 WEST 54TH ST NEW YORK NY 10019
Show is Thursday, June 25th at 7pm – Running Time is about 70 minutes.

I’m so pleased that Leslie Goshko – the one and only, the fantastic, the exceptional – Leslie Goshko has agreed to collaborate once again on this project with me. Leslie brings the heat to the ivories and keeps the show off-kilter with her portrayal of Geraldine Shirley, Mistress of the Keys. Steve O’Reilly is leading up the band this time as Ace Calhoun. And we’ve got an all-star cast of rising talents and experienced pros doing numbers in a summer way. The theme is Summer Flings – so be prepared to be tempted by the sultry, embraced by the fleeting, and pine for the impossible. Also there will be bubbles.

Get some tickets and come out and celebrate a fun time with Cory McAbee, Reformed Whores, Melissa Elledge, Ashley Perez Flanagan, Josh Sharp, Julia Anrather, Abigayle Horrell, and the ladies from the band PEP! And in the band Jeff Scherer and Dan Menke with Steve O and Leslie.

See you there!! Keep a song in your heart!

Things Get Wunnerful This Spring!

It’s happening! On Saturday, April 11, at 9:30pm at Joe’s Pub in NYC – I’ll finally be realizing a long-held dream to inhabit the world of the Lawrence Welk Show and make it my own with Wunnerful Wunnerful! For years I’ve wondered what would it be like to have a talented cast of performers take on personas – much like Dale – and put on a show. A genuine singing and dancing spectacular, updated for the modern age.

So here we are. A tribute to Lawrence Welk. Tickets are $20 and I suggest getting them early so you can select the seat you like. Leslie Goshko on piano and at my side making this happen with a band led by Andrew Bancroft that includes Shockwave, Eric Biondo, and Steve O’Reilly. Numbers by Reformed Whores, Jo Equality Lampert, Shaina Taub, Michael Raine, Amber Nelson, Matteo Lane, and more! All with Dale in the host spot ensuring it all goes according to plan. Now we just need a plan.

Post-Holiday Wrap Up at The Jenny Rubin Show

Happy 2015! I’m surrounded by full bottles of scotch and picking pine needles out of my beard, so I’m ready for a wonderful start to the New Year. But since I just spent some time resting and relaxing with family in PA and Ohio – I have a few post-holiday stories to tell and luckily I have a place to tell em!

Come on down to 2A Bar at 25 Ave A, in NYC this Thursday at 8pm for my first time on The Jenny Rubin Show. Stories and comedy in an intimate setting hosted by the fantastic Jenny Rubin. I’ll be on the lineup with the terrific Margaret Dodge, J Lalonde, and Harmon Leon. Always an honor to be asked to do something and I’m excited to talk about some of the great gifts I’ve been given over the years.

And I think it’s free? So – come by and have a drink! It’s cold out. Let’s huddle on a barstool.
