Another Season of Deep Night with Dale Comes to a Close

On Weds, May 15th at 8pm, the latest season of the podcast/talk show Deep Night with Dale comes to an end. With an all-star lineup of amazing guests, including a certain Seever family member making her Deep Night debut – this one is not to be missed. If you like the terrific show The Tick, we’ve got Griffin Newman who plays Arthur – the heart and soul of that fine show. The very funny comedian Emmy Blotnick is making her return to the program after many years. Emmy was one of our earliest guests when we used to do the show in a prop shop basement along the Gowanus. What will things be like now that we’re above ground? Lindsey Broad made a name for her self by almost breaking up Jim and Pam on TV’s The Office! SCANDAL! Now she’s on a brand new show, In The Dark – and it just got renewed, so maybe we can finally talk about other stuff! And Sammus, the brilliant, dazzling rapper/performer/phD is coming up from Philly to blow Dale’s mind. Will she bring that giant mega-man arm she sometimes performs with? Again – so many questions. Get tickets here: http://www.slipperroom.com/event/1845263-guest-event-deep-night-dale-new-york/ and maybe get some answers!

In the meantime -we can all enjoy this beautiful poster artwork from illustrator Laurent Hrybyk. Laurent is in Baltimore and was able to capture Dale’s slow descent back into the timestream/Gowanus along with his trusty pigeon (finally reunited after a series of mishaps if you’ve been following the story of the posters this season). Anyway – we’re really happy to have Laurent’s image here and hope to see you at the Season Finale May 15th at The Slipper Room.

Next Deep Night is Live 3/13/19

One of the most delightful aspects of producing Deep Night with Dale, is working with my talented guests and finding amazing illustrators to design the posters for the shows. Now, usually these posters get circulated digitally, but I often print up a few and keep them in the Deep Night archives. This month’s Deep Night poster features artwork by New York-based artist Katherine Lam. She sent a few rough ideas, and I loved all of them (from moody interiors of modern apartments to Dale looking out into a rainy night) but the one that lept out at me was the one featured here – with the large pigeon looming in the background and Dale looking like the next star of True Detective.

Dale might not be solving any crimes (or will he?!) on the next live show on Weds, March 13th at The Slipper Room – but you should definitely come out to see the show which features an amazing lineup of comedians and writers that I have been eager to get on the show for years. Join Dale and his guests Todd Barry, Monroe Martin, Mallory O’Meara, and Alex Song. Plus Cornelius Loy will be playing the theremin and 96B will be filling the tiny stage with movement. DEEP NIGHT SEASON 10 BEGINS 9/20!

Friends. Dale’s looking forward to seeing you at The Slipper Room on Weds, September 20th at 8pm for the live Season 10 premiere of the Deep Night podcast. Dale’s got a terrific lineup of guests – most of whom are still covered in body glitter after attending the recent Emmy Awards. We’re finding comedy in dark places with Matt Rogers (Las Culturistas), Rae Sanni (The President Show), Kristen Bartlett (SNL), and Melinda Taub (Full Frontal with Samantha Bee). For tickets and more info visit:
http://www.slipperroom.com/event/1519641-guest-event-deep-night-dale-new-york/.

All of these guests are helping to define and contextualize and offer relief from our current political moment. Meanwhile – Dale is fresh off his stint as spiritual consultant to the catering staff at some of NY’s hottest fashion events for New York Fashion Week. His turtleneck is pressed, his owlmulet gleaming, and his demons are mostly in check. Don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate the tenth season of the show and to learn more about essential oils from a licensed regional distributor.

And after this live event tune into the podcast for more great conversations. But really – come to the event. Dale promises a good time.

Deep Night Takes on Late Night in NYC!

Dale is thrilled to discuss the legacy of late night television and the artful role of host with three terrific guests who explore this topic (among other things) in their work. Dale welcomes critic and New York Times columnist, Jason Zinoman to talk about his new, essential book, Letterman: The Last Giant of Late Night. Then the conversation will expand to include two contemporary hosts, comedians Maeve Higgins and Ike Ufomadu. Maeve of course hosts the popular podcast, Maeve in America and is a frequent all star guest/co-host on Star Talk, along with Eugene Mirman and Neil deGrasse Tyson. Ike Ufomadu is a stand up and comedic performer who has taken on the form of late night talk show and reinvented it, retooled it, deconstructed it, and put it back together again. He’s an artist in residence at Joe’s Pub along with some other terrific Deep Night alumni, and Dale is eager to hear his take on the influence of these folks behind the desks.
We’ll be joined once again by the delightful Cornelius Loy on theremin and perhaps Dale will work his conjuring magic to summon forth an additional guest! Or maybe he’ll just practice some crystal therapy on the guy who always sits in the front row! Either way, it will be a wonderful show and we hope to see you there.

Oh and a special thanks to the very gifted Candice Broersma for her illustration of Dale and his mystical pigeon on the newest poster series. Check out her work and have her draw everything. She’s terrific.

CONJURING ANOTHER DEEP NIGHT IN NYC 3/22

Oh, friends and fiends. This is the time of year of awakenings and meltings and new feelings. Along with a lot of messy puddles from the past just sitting there waiting to evaporate. Come hasten the arrival of spring with a brand new live edition of the sensational talk show and podcast that at least one person said was “the funniest show I’ve seen in 20 years of downtown comedy”. That’s something!

We are thrilled to return to the Slipper Room on the Lower East Side with an epic program that is sure to delight. Dale will begin the evening with a visit from noted researcher and photographer, Shannon Taggart. Shannon has spent more than 16 years devoted to understanding and documenting the world of mediums, conjuring, and seances in American Spiritualism. We’ll see what spirits are released as the two converse over a small table and some strong drinks. The evening continues to build on that conversation with comedians Hadiyah Robinson and Alex English along with writer Maggie Serota, Managing Editor of Death and Taxes. Plus electrifying music from theremin master, Cornelius Loy! We hope you can join us, in the DEEP NIGHT!

Marching Through San Francisco

Oh, friends! Here we are back from the wild days of marches and rain and comedy that was our recent trip to San Francisco. We went out there to the City by the Bay, for Dale’s fourth electrifying appearance at SF Sketchfest. I always enjoy going out to the Festival and it was fantastic that so many folks made it out to our show, even though it happened at exactly the same time as the giant protest happening downtown and around the world. We had a really fun evening in the Deep Night, welcoming guests Jenny Zigrino (pictured with Dale above), Allie Goertz, and Phil Ross. Phil showed off some of his future fungus that is going to be what everyone is wearing, building houses out of, and generally clamoring for as time goes on. If you want to hear the audio from that night – crazy mic pops and all – you can do that here on the Deep Night site: http://www.daleradio.com/2017/01/26/dn9-sfsketchfest/.

San Francisco looked good, if damp. And I got to run into a lot of fun people and comedy heroes in the elevator. That’s the main reason I go anymore. Just to see Ron Funches in the hotel lobby is enough to make my day. Look for some more live shows back in NY – now that we’re settled in again and who knows – maybe more exciting things on the horizon. Just trying to make it through the daily announcements from the news and general life stuff at the moment.
